Mindfulness Education Through Nature

Mindfulness Education Through Nature

Our Lady of Malibu School teachers weave a deep understanding of our connection to Nature through our mindfulness programs and teaching practices. “Nature impacts our children’s learning and physical well-being on many levels.” Nature is a place of wonder and awe for our children to grow and develop, such as art, imagination, respect, and responsibility for self and others; it educates the whole child. This mindfulness curriculum is a way to teach students ‘How’ to pay attention, gives them life skills, and helps them further develop cognitively and emotionally by using nature as one of our main base tools. Mindfulness for young children is as simple as teaching them to notice what is happening now. They learn to notice how their body feels and what they see, smell, taste, and emotions. Mindfulness helps children create space between their feelings and their actions to respond to them.
